So let's start. I was born and raised in a megalopolis also called Brazil, and that was great fun. So that means that my mother tongue is Portuguese. Speaking it very much sounds beautiful to me because from a foreign perspective I love listening to Brazilian music. I always have had this pressure for traveling so I traveled all over South America. I have also spent three months back in Europe — I spent much more, much longer than that, I spent one year in Europe. My budget was much smaller than a guidebook so it was amazing. Europe is a major continent, so much diversity, so many languages, so many benefits to traveling by yourself. I have also lived in California as a SCUBA instructor and it's a great great great place. In the US I spent most of my time in Hawaii and we actually lived there and we have just a passion for this place. I call Hawaii my home. I think it is the most beautiful place all over the world. I also spent some time in Texas where I did my postdoctoral after my PhD in Australia — we'll get there soon. But before I went to Australia I spent some time in Northern Sweden, a beautiful place. I had a bit of sense of culture and what does it mean to be in a dark, dry place. Summertime is beautiful. And then I had also the privilege to work and live in Southeast Asia — all over Southeast Asia. It's such a beautiful part of the world and I highly recommend every single country in this region, it's amazing. Then I spent actually a few years in Brisbane Australia, traveled all over the country as well, and that is where I finished my PhD and my first two kids were born. Australia, as everybody knows, is a nice place. And finally, here I am in this beautiful corner of Japan on Kyushu — Miyazaki — which if you haven't been here yet I highly recommend you visit before you leave Japan, or if you're going to stay here make sure you come down here. It's amazing. There are so many hidden gems here. It's really like a treasure hunt. It's a kind of paradise — it's unbelievable how many beautiful places one person can find here. So I hope to now give you some background of why I am here, help you find some commonalities, places you have been to, so we build some connections. I look forward to hearing your own story. See you in the course, bye-bye."},{"@type":"Course","name":"Sustainable Environments","description":"ENST 0842 – Sustainable Environments course taught by Marvin Uehara.","url":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/courses/enst-0842/sustainable-environments","provider":{"@id":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/#person"},"courseCode":"ENST 0842","inLanguage":"en","hasCourseInstance":{"@type":"CourseInstance","courseMode":"online"}},{"@type":"Course","name":"Kids in Crisis: When Schools Don't Work","description":"EDUC 0823 – A course examining educational crises and when traditional schooling systems fail children.","url":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/courses/educ-0823/kids-is-crisis-when-schools-dont-work","provider":{"@id":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/#person"},"courseCode":"EDUC 0823","inLanguage":"en","hasCourseInstance":{"@type":"CourseInstance","courseMode":"online"}},{"@type":"Course","name":"Fundamentals of Personal Financial Planning","description":"RMI 2501 – Fundamentals of Personal Financial Planning taught by Marvin Uehara.","url":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/courses/rmi-2501/fundamentals-of-personal-financial-planning","provider":{"@id":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/#person"},"courseCode":"RMI 2501","inLanguage":"en","hasCourseInstance":{"@type":"CourseInstance","courseMode":"online"}},{"@type":"ResearchProject","name":"Stigmergy Network Theory","description":"An original academic theory developed by Marvin Uehara exploring how digital traces left online by individuals create emergent, leaderless networks of knowledge and change.","url":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/research/from-personal-experience-to-academic-theory/the-origins-of-the-stigmergy-network-theory","author":{"@id":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/#person"}},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"name":"Home","item":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"name":"Short Intro","item":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/short-intro"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":3,"name":"Research","item":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/research"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":4,"name":"Courses","item":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/courses"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":5,"name":"AI Literacy & Lesson Plans","item":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/ai-literacy-lesson-plans"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":6,"name":"Publications","item":"https://www.marvinuehara.com/publications"}]}]}</script>
